NEW YORK (AP) - Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are putting a strain on the
term "newlyweds."
The couple, who wed two years ago, will return Jan. 26 for the third season
of their MTV reality show, featuring the difficulties of being a
(relatively) recently married couple.
Ten new episodes of "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" will include housebreaking
their new dog, Daisy; celebrating their second wedding anniversary; and the
24-year-old singer-actress' preparations for her role as Daisy Duke in the
upcoming "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie.
Meanwhile, Simpson's younger sister, Ashlee, will be back with the second
season of "The Ashlee Simpson Show," also premiering Jan. 26.
The new episodes will "document Ashlee as she skyrockets to the top of the
music industry and is then forced to face the other side of fame, including
intense press scrutiny and live performance mishaps," Lois Curren, executive
vice president of MTV series entertainment, said in a recent statement.
Ashlee, 20, was caught using background vocals on NBC's "Saturday Night
Live," and her halftime performance at the Orange Bowl was met with a
discernible chorus of boos.
MTV also announced that a show featuring Lachey's efforts to launch a solo
music career is tentatively set to premiere in April.
Cameras will follow Lachey as he builds a studio in his home, signs with
Jive Records and works with his label to get his CD in stores.
"Viewers will see a different side of me than in `Newlyweds' and be able to
understand exactly what goes into the making of an album," said the
31-year-old Lachey, formerly of the band 98 Degrees.
